Edgar county imagination library
It
all began five years ago.
In June of 2002, the early childhood literacy program known as Dolly
Parton’s Imagination Library in Edgar County was launched, and a beloved
storybook entitled, ‘The
Little Engine That Could,” was mailed to 179 Edgar County preschool
children.
This would be the first book of many provided to our community’s
children at no cost to the families.
Since that first mailing, enrollment in the program has risen
considerably, and now over 500 Edgar County children receive a free, hard-cover,
age-appropriate book in the mail each and every month until the child turns 5
years of age.
To date, over 31,000 books have been ordered for Edgar County children.
That’s a lot of reading! On-line
enrollment is now available.
Children can be registered quickly and easily through the Dollywood
Foundation website at www.dollysimaginationlibrary.com.
Altrusa International, Inc. of Paris and HRC continue to administer the
program in partnership with The Dollywood Foundation.
Major funding is provided by The United Way of Edgar County.
